But in the background we see Gladiator making his way through to him.

This time we pick with Peter as he suffers a tragedy and well old man time, and he goes to Earth after teaming with the Guardians. So Quill and company get in a few scrapes with Doom’s Goons…īottom Line : This is my first foray into the Old Man books, so I’m not really up to speed on the goings on in the future, but it still wasn’t as painful as a kidney stone or gout or that really bad hip pain you can get when you sit too long, to follow the story, with a handful of “See Old Man Hawkeye” blurbs thrown in as chum along the bottom of panels.įor Guardians of the Galaxy fans who are dusting off their grandparents Lawrence Welk records. In order to beat the Killer Cult of the Holy Space Ghost, the Guardians need to go to Earth to find some sort of horcrux to beat “God” with. So a depressed, guilt-ridden Quill goes on a 50 year bender, falls (a few dozen times) and can’t get up without a little help from his Guardian pals. It seems that there’s some sort of religious cult of the Holy Space Ghost going from planet to planet “cleansing” the denizens of their sins.Īnd they just got to Quill’s planet and family. The kids at Marvel sure like their “Old Man” books, cuz here’s another one. Naps will still be a thing, as well as being a cranky next door neighbor. On the bright side, oldsters will be spared AARP mailings, figuring out how to work remote controls, coming up with exact change when purchasing denture cream (no paper checks either) and colonoscopies. Doom-ster future according to Marvel Comics. As a Guardians fan, I'm a sucker for a good writer tackling these characters, especially Quill, and Sacks proved he can handle this world quite well with Old Man Hawkeye, and he looks to continue that streak with this series, so consider me onboard the Milano (even though it crashed). There will be no adult diapers, Matlock reruns, bingo parlors or senior discount meals at Dennys in the post-Apocalyptic Dr. This first issue sets up an interesting st ory, leaving many questions unanswered already. Now, all that aside, as I can't be mad that this isn't what I wanted, what it is is still pretty great.

It looks like we might see some of that, as we did in this issue, but it looks like they're going straight to Earth, so everyone else is getting exactly what they want. I just wanted future cosmic Marvel, where there aren't many helping hands from anyone on Earth. Sure, I want this taking place in the same future, but I was actually looking forward to a future version of the Guardians NOT on Earth. While some want more of the Wastelands (the Old Man Logan alternate-future version of Earth), I actually wanted the opposite. So, I don't seem to have the same things to nag about this issue as others.
